Obituary of Philip C. Wick

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Philip Charles “Chip” Wick, 52, passed unexpectedly, at his home in Northport, ME on October 4, 2022. Chip was one of the smartest, wittiest, most interesting, and well-read people you could ever hope to meet. His interests were widespread, his reading list eclectic, and his loyalty unquestioned. He was inevitably the smartest person in the room. He loved his family, his animals, the great outdoors and spent as much time hunting and fishing as he could. His saltwater reef tank was large, well-stocked and carefully maintained.

Chip was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on September 2, 1970. As part of a sailing family, Chip spent lots of time on the water as a kid and these experiences were an important part of his personality and life experience. His love of nature and family came from his time spent on the boat. He learned to swim, dive, and appreciate underwater sights many of us will never enjoy. He loved being on the water and made an ocean crossing on his parents’ boat Lucayo.

Chip came to Maine as a student at Bowdoin College and ultimately earned a Masters of Science degree from the University of Maine. He worked as a freshwater biologist for the State of Maine and was a partner in several area businesses. His dream was to run a hobby farm on his own land, and he was working towards this goal when he left us.

Chip was knowledgeable in many areas of wildlife biology and loved learning about nature. He read voraciously and his mind was like a steel trap when it came to retaining interesting facts. He was always the first person to crack a joke or make a pun and everyone enjoyed his company. He was liked (and loved) by everyone who knew him.

Chip is survived by his parents Pip and Judy, children Hayden and Megan, partner Kelly Moses and her children Levi and Wyatt, sisters Shari (and husband Frank) and Jenny (and husband Jim), Jane Cady, nieces, nephews, and many friends. His dogs Gilly, Meera, Wylla, Hodor, and Kitty will miss him, too. His loss leaves a huge hole in our hearts, but fond memories will see us through. Rest in peace our son, brother, father, partner, and friend.  Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.
