Obituary of David A. Johnson

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Arthur Johnson died at his home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, surrounded by loving family, at the age of eighty two.  He was born June 21, 1938 in Morrill Maine, the son of Maurice and Marion (Bibber) Johnson. Dave began work at a young age delivering the milk with his father.  When he was 12 he was pulled over by the police for driving the milk truck and had to go to court. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1956 and soon began working at Grant’s Dairy.  In 1967 Dave was hired at Dutch Chevrolet as the service manager.  A position he devotedly held for over 30 years. After retirement Dave just couldn’t walk away from his customers, so he continued to work part time as courtesy driver until 2012.  He enjoyed his weekly Friday visits with his Dutch family until earlier this year when Covid-19 had us all staying home. Dave married Virginia Littlefield in 1957.  They raised their family in their Cottage Street home and were married 49 years until Ginny’s passing in 2006. As a young couple Dave and Ginny belonged to the Belfast Jaycee’s and in retirement they both were volunteers for the Waldo County General Hospital Aid.  Dave was a proud member of the Belfast Masonic Lodge for 52 years and a 38 year member of the Anah Shrine.  He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and rarely missed one of their games.  Dave would work nights at the old Drive-In so he could take the family to a 3 game series at Fenway most summers.   Dave is survived by his three children--- Steven & Laurie Johnson, Candace & Tad Hanson and Diane & Donald Miles.  His siblings--- Barbara Doyle, Polly Davis, Penny Rae, and Roann & Brian Curry.  His grandchildren who all held a special bond with their grandpa are Steven Johnson & Ashley Offret, Ashley (Hanson) & Rich Collenburg, Katie (Miles) & Justin Merrill, Jesse & Sandra Johnson, Graham Hanson, Amy Miles & Garrett Blanton, and Tyler & Sally Miles.  He was also a great grandpa to:  Mallory & Austin, Charley, Brooke and Lydia. Dave was uncle, friend and neighbor to many. In addition to Ginny, Dave was predeceased by his parents, father in law Floyd Littlefield, step father Macey Huntley, siblings Patricia and Denny, brothers in law Whitey, Ernest, Phil, Russ and Bo and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in the spring or summer of 2021. If one wishes, donations in David’s memory may be sent to: Shriners Hospital for Children c/o Anah Shrine 1404 Broadway Bangor Maine  04401 His family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Delehanty, Dr. Elizabeth Connelly, Katrina Tozier NP and all the nurses and staff at WCGH oncology.  We appreciate your care and compassion for dad over these past years. Granddaughter Amy summed it all up --- Heaven gained another Angel today.  Rest in Peace, Grandpa Johnson.  Your love for dancing and singing, dinner rolls, Miller Lite, the Red Sox and your family are memories that I will forever hold in my heart.  I hope you’re up there dancing away and singing Tiny Bubbles with Grammie.  I love you.  Until we meet again. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com
