Allen Hayward was a true friend. We enjoyed Allen's friendship for 40 years. We met Allen when we bought Harbor Light Cottage and he stopped by to introduce himself. From that day on, Allen was always the highlight of our trips to the cottage. Allen was rather reserved but when he got to know us over the years, we were so fortunate to have him share his stories about growing up in the area, his friendship with the couple who lived in the cottage before us, and the daily happenings in the area. When we travelled anywhere in the state with Allen, there were always people who knew him and would stop and talk with him for a bit. Allen was a friend to so many people and he is very much missed.
Our condolences to Irene and Allen's family.

Paul and I curled with Allen for many years at the Belfast Curling Club. He was a lovely person to be around, always gracious and a perfect 'sport'. He loved the water and lobstering and regaled us with stories about his boat and his traps. He loved to travel to Grand Manan Island for tournaments. We were very sad to hear of Allen's passing and will always remember his calm, quiet demeanor and happy smile. Our deepest sympathies to Irene.

We met Allen about 20 years ago when he delivered lobsters to the door of Harbor Light Cottage. Every summer since, we've had the great pleasure of getting together to share a beer after his long day of fishing, dinners, lots of laughs and plenty of good conversations. Allen always shared the bounty of his garden and his time. He was never anything but nice to two tourists who loved Maine as much as he. He will be missed.
