Peter J. Stewart
Peter John Stewart, 67, of Montville, ME, beloved friend and brother, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
Peter was born on May 2, 1953 in Brockton, MA to Goodwill M. and Valerie M. (Corson) Stewart. He grew up in Brockton and in S. Easton, MA. He graduated from Nasson College, pursued graduate studies in history and teaching, and had an eclectic career, driving horse drawn carriages at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, building racing shells, teaching in alternative schools, and carpentering and contracting.
Peter grew up skiing in the White Mountains and later enjoyed sea kayaking in Maine, including the waters of the St. John's River, Quebec, Baja, Belize, the Dry Tortugas and the Isle of Skye in Scotland. He sailed up and down the east coast many times as well. He was an avid woodworker building kayaks, instruments and much of his own home and spent many vacations helping a friend build a home in Belize. He was also interested in world history and his own family heritage. He loved animals, and had many dogs and cats throughout his life including his current rescue cat, Scott. He was known for his passion for discussion, and as a giver of great hugs.
Peter was preceded in death by his father, Goodwill, and his mother, Valerie. He is survived by his sister Laurie Stewart Otten and her husband David, his brother Thomas P. Stewart and his wife Kathryn, his sister Sara Stewart Torrey, and her husband David, and his sister Ann Stewart Burns, and her husband Christopher as well his nephews, James S. Stewart, and his great-nephew Heath Otten and great-niece Annika Otten. He also leaves several cousins and dear friends including David (Pop) Pappalardo and his wife Janis Minshull, Bob and Roz Ryan, and Mary Hanrahan.
Due to Coronavirus concerns, a gathering to celebrate his life will take place at a future date.
