This photo is one of my prized possessions. It is from a series of childhood pictures of me and my brothers, taken by my beloved Uncle Bobby Gillies. The photo is of his namesake, and my baby brother, Bob McGreevey.
"Obbie" is what I named him. We were only 18 months apart in age, but I was his protective, bossy, big sister Ann Garnett. He had the smile and twinkle in his eye of a little leprechaun when he was a boy. These characteristics followed him even into old age. Obbie was very bright, and he had a great sense of humor, but he was the kinda' kid who was always getting lost or falling out of trees. He could exasperate the hell out of you, but you would always forgive him because you knew of his inherent goodness.
Our Great Grandmother, Miss Essie, called us Peter and his sister Cotton Tail. If she were alive today and were asked to eulogize Obbie she'd say, "Every Chick and Child along the countryside knew and loved him well."
I will miss you, Dear Brother. Sleep with the Angels.

Bob was in my life about as far back as I can remember. You made growing up very interesting to say the least. You were always fun! I’ll never forget learning to use power tools to build picnic tables at 10 years old, the Noah’s arc of farm animals we had, or the car rides where we’d purposefully get lost...despite being an anxious mess, you taught me the thrill of adventure. You are miss so much. Watch over mom as she did for you ❤️

Bob and I met at the Amityville Beach in 1959. We were both 11 years old. Bob had freckles, the nicest smile, the funniest laugh, and he made me laugh all the time. He would walk to my house almost every day and I was always happy he was there. We would swim together in the summer and sleigh ride together at Bethpage State Park in the winter. We would play hide and seek in my back yard in the warm weather and, after the dinner dishes were done, we’d sit under the willow tree listening to my transistor radio until Mom would call me to come inside. We’d say goodnight and make plans for the next day. I think I always knew we’d be together one day. He was my love, and my soul. A calm and restful peace for you at last my love.

Ole Bob, so many memories. You kept the teenage years interesting, and life lessons learned. Thank you for your service and for the laughs. RIP
