Obituary of Eugene S. Bowen

Eugene S. Bowen, 82, of Belfast passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 1, 2018 in Belfast. He was born on January 16, 1936 in Belfast the son of Sidney and Hazel (Heath) Bowen. Gene attended Crosby High School and after school went on to work in the woods managing wood lots that supplied to local paper mills. While working in the woods he enjoyed interactions with many animals and the peaceful solitude of being in nature. Gene worked at the Searsport docks as a longshoreman for many years and was a member of local# 1519 International Longshoreman Association, as well as serving in the National Guard. He and his wife enjoyed many rides together. Gene is remembered as a great storyteller, humble and private family man, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Thelma (Tuplin) Bowen; his daughters Debbie Dakin and husband Shawn of Searsport and Kim Patten and husband Donny of Belfast; his son Kelly Bowen and girlfriend Lisa Kelley of Belfast; grandchildren Shawna (Dakin) Hooper and husband Greyden, Shawn Dakin Jr., Donny Patten Jr, Kristopher Bowen, Kally Bowen; great grandchild Cadence Hooper. At the family’s request the burial will be held privately at Smart Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his memory to Waldo County General Hospital Hospice Unit or an Animal Shelter of one’s choice.
