Obituary of V. Wayne Teeney
SEARSPORT - V. Wayne Teeney, 84, died at his home Wednesday, May 16, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born January 6, 1934, in Belmont, son of Joseph C. Teeney and Bernice (Greer) Teeney Page.
Wayne was born and raised in Maine, served in the US Army from 1955 - 58, married the love of his life, Janice and they had four daughters. He then moved, with his family, to Connecticut to drive truck for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company from which he retired after 25 years of service. Upon his retirement, he returned to Maine where he lived in Searsport until his passing.
Wayne is pre-deased by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice (Colby) Teeney, his parents, his sisters Joyce (Teeney) Crosby and Norma (Teeney) Rich and brother-in-laws, Dean Colby and Carl (Smiley) Hodges. He is survived by his sisters Wenda (Teeney) Brown and Maxine (Teeney) Curtis and husband Charles, sister-in-law Pauline (Colby) Hodges, daughters Valerie Relyea of Searsport, ME, Joanne Toussaint and her husband Mark of Land O Lakes, FL, Priscilla Jacques and her husband Lloyd and Leslie Nguyen of Wallingford, CT. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; Benjamin Relyea, Nicholas and Cinnamin Kirychuck, Justin, Corey and Andrea Toussaint, Lloyd and Alicia Jacques, Crystal, Vinnie and Chelsea Nguyen as well as 5 great grandchildren; Jayna and Jasannah Relyea, Jeremiah Nguyen, Lily Jacques, Colbie Lagoa and many nieces and nephews.
Upon retiring, Wayne took up driving a fifth-wheel camper to travel the US from Maine to Alaska, CT, Florida and Texas with Janice. They would visit family in all parts and meet new friends and re-connect with old. He was passionate about old cars especially his 1940 Plymouth which he loved to take to the Reny’s Cruise In as well as drive in the summer parades having his children and grandchildren ride along to toss candy. The maverick that he was, he could be found watching his favorite baseball team, The New York Yankees any chance he could - YES - in Red Sox territory! He also loved to watch the weekend Nascar races and especially enjoyed when a friend would join him.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, a friendly banter, love of family, making breakfast for the whole gang and accusing his winning cribbage opponents of cheating!
The family will be gathering on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 3 - 6 PM at the VFW Hall, 34 Field St., Belfast and invite friends to join them to remember and celebrate Wayne.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to MaineHealth Care at Home (Hospice), 15 Industrial Park Rd, Saco, ME 04072.
