Obituary of Cathy Lynn Goldman Morgan

Cathy Lynn Goldman Morgan, 61, of Belfast, Maine, died on October 15, 2016, at home in the company of her family. Cathy was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 5, 1955 to Fred Jr. and Mary Nan (Rieger) Goldman. Cathy graduated high school from Buxton School in Williamstown, MA. It was during this time that she went on her first safari to Kenya and Tanzania, the beginning of what would be a lifelong love of travel. She met her husband, Lyndon W. Morgan, at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. They married soon after her graduation. Cathy continued her studies at the West Virginia University College of Law where she was admitted to Law Review. Upon first moving to Belfast, she practiced general law, though soon left in order to raise her family, volunteer in the community, and pursue other interests. Cathy thoroughly enjoyed nature and travel, often combining the two with trips to Africa, Central America, and Europe, especially France. Cathy was a good sport when asking for directions while driving through the French countryside. She was often complimented on her beautiful accent when chatting with locals in cafes and the open markets of Provence. Cathy had great childhood memories of racing across fields on horseback with her mother, another interest she continued to enjoy both locally and during her travels. She was particularly thrilled last spring when Orion, the most recent horse she rode, surprised her with a birthday visit at home. Cathy believed in the protection and preservation of wildlife and their natural habitats. Her dedication to conservation was reflected in her support for the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition and Coastal Mountains Land Trust. She was an avid bird watcher, whose excitement of birding was contagious. Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Fred Jr. and Mitzi Goldman and her brother Fred Goldman III. She is survived by her husband of thirty-nine years, Lyndon, and their children Rebecca and Jeffrey; sister Ann Goldman Shanklin; sisters-in-law Deborah McCarthy and Janet Morgan; brothers-in-law Kenneth and Robert Morgan; cousin Randee Kelley, five nieces and three nephews. Cathy will be missed by her comfort spaniel, Olive. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 5th at the Shrine Club, Northport Avenue, Belfast. A private interment will be held at Eastside Cemetery in Northport. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance may be made to Coastal Mountains Land Trust, 101 Mt. Battie St., Camden, ME 04843.
