Obituary of Charles Irving Porter Jr.
Charles Porter (1937-2024)
Charles I. Porter, Jr., 86, Unity, died on December 4, 2024.
He was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey in 1937 to Charles I. Porter, Sr. and Belle (Smith) Porter.
Charlie graduated from Grover Cleveland High School, in Caldwell New Jersey before joining the army for two years. He then went to work at various hardware stores before purchasing his own in Unity Maine. He also worked as a code enforcement officer for the towns of Unity, Burnham, Troy, Thorndike and Albion, Maine.
Charlie met his wife, Judy in 1955, while attending a Boy Scout camping trip to Crescent Beach in Jefferson Maine, because both of their fathers were Scout leaders.
Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married December 22, 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland. They had two children, Dianne Porter and James Porter.
Charlie was an active member of the fire department in Caldwell, New Jersey and then in Unity. He filled various roles, including assistant fire chief and manning the radio in his later years. He was a member of the Star in the West Masonic lodge
Charles was predeceased by his parents and brother Fred. He leaves behind his wife, Judith, His daughter Dianne Porter, his son James Porter and wife Penni, two granddaughters, Kaytlyn Porter and her husband Dustin McHugh and Krysta Hustus and her husband Donald (Mikey) Hustus.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the cemetery on Quaker Hill.
