Harold Larrabee Jr.

Obituary of Harold J. Larrabee Jr.

Harold J. Larrabee Jr. returned home on December 4, 2024, after a brief illness.  He was born in Belfast on July 26, 1955, and the world was never quite the same.

Harry grew up with the blessing of eight siblings and parents he adored. Aunts, uncles and cousins completed a large and loving family, and he carried that love of family with him for the rest of his life.  Childhood friends became lifelong friends.   As he grew older, his adventures became “memorable” and have provided stories galore that have entertained friends and family for decades. Oh, could he tell a story!

Harry made an impression, of some sort, on everyone he met.  You never had to wonder what he thought about anything.  He would happily tell you, no punches pulled.  He was a loyal friend and a dedicated employee, passionately tackling the task at hand.  From frozen lakes and restaurant kitchens to softball fields and golf courses, log yards and dialysis centers, Harry left his unique footprint behind.

Chronic illness plagued him for years.  The physical, emotional and mental toll was a heavy weight to carry but with determination, stubbornness, sheer will and a hefty dose of humor, he would allow very little to stand in his way.  A doc once described him as a “unique specimen.”  He was that and then some.

The first of many to greet Harry was his dad, Harold Sr., his mum, Eldena (Deenie), and his brother, John.  His memory keepers are his sweetheart of 37 years, Carol; adored daughter, Erica as well as bonus sons, “Pete” and Shawn; precious grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jordyn, Tanner, Sophie and bonus grands Michael, Lindsay, Dakota, Nate, Lily, Paris and Kamin; nine great-grands; well loved siblings that brought him immense joy; a score of special nieces and nephews; an inherited family that welcomed him into the fold whom he loved well; hundreds of friends, old and new and finally, his beloved Khloe Kat.

Heartfelt gratitude is sent to his Dialysis Crew at DCI in Belfast and the ER staff at Maine Health-Waldo.  Your loving care will not be forgotten.

Over the past 25 years, The MMC Maine Transplant Program team performed three successful kidney transplants for Harry and provided wonderful pre and post op care. These folks became a second family, and we will be forever grateful for their expertise, care and love.

We, as his family extend a warm welcome to all who would like to attend Part One of a Celebration of Life at the Morrill Community Center Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1 pm.

Per Harry’s request of a ‘Send Me Out with a Bang’ party, Part Two will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025.  Location and time will be shared closer to summer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to PAWS Animal Adoption Center, 123 John Street, Camden, ME or The National Kidney Foundation of Maine.

Please consider becoming an organ donor, it’s the last best gift you will ever give.
