Obituary of Charles A. Sweetland

Charles Arthur Sweetland, of Montville, passed away November 30, 2024; surrounded by his family.
He was born April 27, 1951 in Camden and raised in Appleton by loving parents, Paul Sr and Joyce Sweetland.

Charlie attended schools in Appleton, South Montville, and Camden-Rockport High School, the class of 1969. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard for eight years. Later, Charlie was a truck driver for H.E. Sargent for many years and also a delivery man for Thompson oil. He worked with his father and brothers in both the firewood and blueberry industries.

Charlie was an avid hunter; he shot his first deer while at the family camp up north as a teenager. His ultimate accomplishment was bagging a 230 pound 10 point buck in 2017; for which he received a Maine Antler and Skull Trophy Club Merit Award.

When Charlie retired, you could find him at Mike’s garage next door. Or; if the close sign was in the window – that meant that he and his buddies Mike and Billy Mayer had gone fishing. On Tuesdays and Saturdays Charlie and Melody could be found with their elite breakfast club members; Jane, Jim, Bill, Barbara, and an extra chair for any guests.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents; father and mother In-law and siblings; brothers Rusty Curry and Elmer Sweetland Sr, sister Karen Winchenbach,
Brother-in-law Bo Spaulding and two grand children, Rebekkah and Bryan.

He is survived by his wife, Melody Sweetland, his pride and joy, Gerry and Lola; His daughter Tammy (Lloyd) Sweetland; Sons Timothy Sweetland, and Chris (Julie) Doolan; eight grandchildren: Krystofer, Anthony, Tristan, Krysta, Connor, Darrien, Jason and Jonathan and eight great-grandchildren. Charlie is also survived by his siblings: Phillip (Loretta) Sweetland, Brian (Wendy) Curry, PJ (Katie) Sweetland, Stephanie (Scott) Carpenter, Brenda Spaulding, Elizabeth (Paul) Carter, brother-in-law, Gene Winchenbach and his 94 year old Aunt Charlene Sherman.

Many nieces and nephews had the privilege and honor of having “Uncle Chuck” in their lives.

A celebration of life will be in the spring.
