Obituary of Steven H Piper
Steven H. Piper, age 63, of Troy, Maine, passed away on October 26, 2024, at Eastern Maine Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Waterville, Maine, on December 14, 1960. He attended Mt. View High School and went on to receive his GED several years later. After traveling west and working in Washington on a dam and planting trees, Steven bought a motorcycle and drove cross-country back to Maine where he worked a variety of jobs over the years.
He has been the custodian for the Unity and Troy town offices. Since 2007 he has served as the custodian for the RSU3 Superintendent’s Office and Unity Pre-K, where he was well-liked by his colleagues. Great memories include funny jokes and comics, his penchant for candy, and wearing shorts outside in the dead of winter while clearing the walkways. But everyone knows how much Steve prided himself on using the fewest number of watts possible, both at home and at school!
Steven has served as a Trustee of the Troy Forest Area since 1999. He used to work in the woods on the family farm cutting wood with his father, Erwin. He LOVED recycling everything from paper to metal, driving his Gator, and playing cribbage. He made regular trips to Detroit for The Maine Store’s breakfast sandwich. And he kept Schwann’s in business for years with his ice cream orders!
Steven is survived by his brothers Ron of Richmond, Va., Brian of Troy, and his sisters Brenda Dusoe (Peter) of Albion, and Deb of Stoughton, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Barbara Piper of Troy, Maine.
Steven was a registered organ donor and was able to provide the gift of life to several recipients. The family would like to thank the staff of Eastern Maine Medical Center and New England Donor Services for taking such great care of him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 2, from 1-3 pm at the Unity Union Church Fellowship Hall, 13 Depot Street in Unity, Maine. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com.
