Obituary of Beverly Travers
Beverly Young Travers was born on June 6, 1926, in Waterville, Maine. She was the daughter of Ralph C. Young and Eleanor Small Young. She was the youngest of five.
She grew up during the great depression and World War II. Because of the depression her family moved to New Jersey to find work. She quit high school and went to work for Shell Oil Co. to help her family financially.
On D Day they moved back to Litchfield, Maine. All along the way they saw people celebrating and dancing in the streets.
Beverly met a handsome young man, Virgil Travers, who lived just up the road. It was not long before they married. Beverly mostly worked as an office worker in a number of places: Hughes Air Craft in Calif., Value House in Lewiston, Eastland Shoe in Freeport. She also held other jobs in shoe shops, wooden mills or whatever she had to do to raise her family.
When she was 42, she went back to school to get her GED and then got her 1st driver’s license.
In 1963 Bev made a decision that changed her life. A minister came to their home and lead both of them to receive Jesus as their Saviour. This one act gave her peace, joy and strength to weather life's difficult times.
Beverly was a sweet, kind, quiet, gentle spirit. She loved a good joke, loved to laugh, to play card games with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. At 98 she could still soundly beat us all at triple solitaire.
Bev was the mother of three: Wayne Thomas "Tom" of Turner, Cathy Thompson and her husband, Mark of Knox and Peggy Mazerat of Crestview, Fla., whom she loved dearly. She had four grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Rebecca, Carrie Johnson and husband Michael, Isaac and wife Theresa and M. Stephen and wife Stephanie who are all special to her. Then came the delight of great grandchildren: Jeremy, Meredith, Melanie, Elizabeth, Elliott, Catherine, Rebecca, Charlotte, Anabelle, Clayton, Lucas, Hunter, and Claire.
A private family gathering will be held in her honor on Monday September 27, 2024.
