Barbara A. Ellis Obituary

Barbara was born March 27, 1940 to Ethel and Edward Wren and passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on July 27, 2024. She grew up in the town of Thorndike with her brother Billy and her sister Sally and many cousins. She graduated from Morse Memorial High School in Brooks in 1956. She began working at the Belfast Shoe Factory, where she met the love of her life, husband of 67 years, John Ellis. They have two beautiful children, Cynthia (Ellis) Lehto and John Ellis Jr.


Barbara was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Johnny Ellis III, Samantha Smith (husband Adam), Liz Lehto (husband Jameson Koga), Kat Lehto, and Stephanie Lehto. As well as a great grandmother to Adalynn and Savannah Smith and Evelyn and Benjamin Koga.


She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as her favorite uncle, Robert and her nieces, Pam and Debbie.


Later in life Barbara became an Avon representative where she made many friends. Barbara loved to go roller skating, bowling, berry picking, and playing Beano. She also enjoyed crocheting, making jewelry, watching sports on TV, and spending time with family and friends. Although she would have rather been at Friendship Park or any other ball field watching her family play.


Barbara was predeceased by her parents Ethel and Edward Wren, brother Billy Wren, brothers- and sisters-in law, James Fernald, Jim Ellis, Judy and Clarance Flagg, June and Whitey Raymond, Jenny Libby, Janice and Ken Gilmore.


She is survived by her husband, John Ellis; children, Cynthia and husband Eric Lehto, John Ellis, Jr. and wife Pam; grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Sally Fernald, brother-in-law Melvin Libby, and sister-in-law Alice Wren.




A graveside service will be held at Smart Cemetery, Blake Rd., Belfast Maine, on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00.
