Clifton E. Hooper Sr. Obituary

Clifton E. Hooper Sr. 83, of Belfast, passed away on July 18, 2024, with his loving family by his side.


Clifton was born in Bucksport, ME on March 11, 1941, the son of Maynard and Catherine Simpson.


He graduated from Bucksport High School and joined the United States Navy in June 1959. Clifton was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the VFW Chaplain for several years.


Clifton worked in the potato fields in Aroostook County, Penobscot Poultry in Belfast, and was a Burner Journeyman at Pen Bay Oil in Rockport. He retired from janitorial at MBNA in Belfast.


He loved to hunt and fish. His favorite pastime was camping in Greenville. In September 2019, he and his daughter, Carrie were privileged to go on the Honor Flight Maine to Washington D.C. In December of the same year, he, Carrie, and grandson Draven joined the Wreaths Across America convoy to Arlington National Cemetery. He was an avid reader of Western novels, Ralph Compton and William Johnstone in particular, loved John Wayne movies and enjoyed the works of Thomas Kinkade.


Clifton married Esther R. George on September 4, 1982, and they were to share 42 long and loving years.


He is survived by his wife, Esther, daughters Terry McNeal, Carol Hann (Darla), and Carrie Thomas (Breyton), sons David Hooper (Michelle), Thomas Hooper, and Clifton Hooper Jr.(Roberta); step-children Raymond Rines, and Vicki Ryder (John); his sister June Hall, brother Harry Simpson (Linda); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces.


He was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon Gallant, parents Maynard and Catherine Simpson, and aunt Blanche Gale.


Those who wish may make memorial donations to the VFW or a charity of their choice.


A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 11 am at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
