Obituary of Barbara A. Grass

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Ann (Littlefield) Grass was born on April 3, 1936, the only child of Elmer and Glennys Littlefield of Swanville, Maine.  She passed away peacefully at Windward Gardens in Camden on May 3,2024, after a long illness.  Barbara attended school in Belfast and although she worked during her lifetime as an office manager in Belfast, Waterville, and Montpelier, Vermont – she was happiest as a homemaker.

Barbara was mother to three daughters, with her husband Stillman Nickerson; Jane Brown and her husband Chuck, Susan Lessard and her husband Daniel Bartlett, and Sharon Nickerson, and ‘Nana Barbara’ to two grandsons – Mark Lessard and Patrick Lessard – and five great grandchildren – Evan Beals, Cole Lessard, Luke Lessard, Isabel Lessard and Sophie Lessard. She was stepmother to Merle Grass’ three children - Troy Grass, Ardette Spear and Carol Kelley, and step-grandmother to their five children. She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Sharon, her former husband Roland Dubay, and her husband Merle Grass.

Barbara had a green thumb and loved to work in her flower gardens and to go on shopping trips with her cousin Wilma Moses. They were known for getting into escapades – and even talking so much on one trip that they ended up missing a turn to get home! Although cousins – they were more like sisters. She was happiest when she was spending time at home, taking a trip to Mardens with Merle, or going out to dinner at their favorite spots. She loved making her home beautiful and was known for the meticulous care that she took of it.

Barbara will be buried in Grove Cemetery in Belfast. Details for a graveside service later in the summer will be provided at a later date.  Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
