Obituary of Helen J. Moody
HELEN MOODY
Helen Josephine (Stairs) Moody of Monroe, passed away on April 14, 2024. She was married to Leon Moody for 58 years, until his death in 2013. Survivors include their four children: Sally (Francis) Cousins of Searsport, Doreen Philbrick of Winterport, Randall Moody of Monroe, and Gregory (Danielle) Moody of Nashua, NH; grandchildren Jason Philbrick, Andrea Sornberger, Darren Philbrick, Travis Cousins, John Moody and Timothy Moody; numerous great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters Frances Huntley of Belfast, Verna Brazier of Lutz, FL, and Janie Smith of Morrill; nieces and nephews.
She was born in Washburn, ME to the late George and Lizzy (Page) Stairs on Feb. 12, 1935. As a child, she lived in Searsport and Winterport before the family moved to Monroe. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Paul “Clayton” Page, Wendell Stairs, and sister Phyllis Adams.
Helen was a graduate of Monroe High School and was well known in Monroe as the town clerk from the 1970s through the early 1990s. She and Leon were avid poker and Bingo players, and for many years were known to cut a mean rug Saturday nights at the former Red Barn in Monroe. She loved to bake and share whoopie pies and other assorted sweets, and did so at every occasion or excuse.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 12 - 3 at the North Searsport Christian Center, adjacent to the North Searsport United Methodist Church at 751 Mt Ephraim Rd, Searsport, ME 04974. There will be a very short service at noon followed by refreshments and time to visit with the family.
