Obituary of Henry Leader Chalmers
Henry “Skeet” Chalmers, of Belfast and Topsham, passed away on November 4, 2023. He was born on August 2, 1939 in Belfast, the son of Florence Condon Chalmers.
Skeet graduated from Crosby High School. He met his wife Barbara while roller skating at the Belfast Rollerdrome. They recently celebrated their 65th anniversary with their family.
Skeet worked in the poultry industry, served as a recruiter for the National Guard, delivered mail for the US :Postal Service, and was a substitute teacher at WCVTI.
Skeet was a lifelong member of the Belfast United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees. He and Barbara taught Sunday School for many years.
Skeet was a member of the Masons and served on the board of the Belfast Water District. He and Barbara fostered dogs for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind and rescued greyhounds. He could be found on the golf course and playing basketball at the YMCA.
Above all, Skeet was a family man. He was very proud of his children and supported them throughout his life. He loved his wife and always said they were a “good team”.
Skeet was predeceased by his mother, Florence, and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, his children; Lori, John (Sue), and Carol (Elin); his grandchildren Owen (Molly), Casey, and Kate (Marco); his great-granddaughter Ellie; and his brother, Don.
Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Belfast United Methodist Church.
