Obituary of Grace E. Sherer

Grace Edna (Austin) Sherer passed away peacefully the afternoon of September 26^th, 2023 at Waldo County General Hospital with her son by her side. She was 85 years old.

 

She was born in Brooklin, Maine on April 22^nd, 1938 to the late Earl and Martha (Douglas) Austin. She was the eldest of four daughters. Grace was a 1956 graduate of Brooklin High School. Grace married Dana Sherer in 1958 and they settled in Stockton Springs, Maine. Together, Grace and Dana had four children.

 

Grace was a horse enthusiast and lover of all animals, especially her beloved dog Toby. She was a hard worker who enjoyed antiques and crafts. Grace was especially talented in working with ceramics. Grace devoted the majority of her life to taking care of others. In addition to raising her own children, Grace looked after her grandchildren. She cared for her husband at home during his six year long battle with brain cancer as well as her sister Beverly up until her passing. Grace worked at the Searsport Antique Mall proudly until the age of 80.

 

Grace is survived her two sons, Stephen B. Sherer of Stockton Springs, ME, Ronald W. Sherer and wife Janet of Norfolk, VA; two grandchildren, Max Sherer and fiancé Samantha of Stockton Springs, ME, Brooke Springer and husband Jantzen of Wilmington, NC; four great grandchildren, Paxton, Knox, Lenny, and Vincent; her sister Marion Dennis of Brooklin, ME; her sister-in-law Marilyn Morrison and husband Homer of Washington State; former daughter-in-law Marsha Medeiros of Shapleigh, ME; and many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Grace is predeceased by her two infant daughters, Vanessa and Darlene, and her two sisters, Beverly Lee and Lois Means.

 

A private burial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date in Sedgwick, Maine where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and daughters.
