Obituary of Neil Walter Hanson

Neil W. Hanson of Searsmont died June 25 at home with his wife of 59 years by his side.

 

He was born August 18, 1937 in Greenville, to Herbert and Eva Jean Chase Hanson.  He was a graduate of Greenville High School, Higgins Classical Institute and the University of Maine. 

 

Neil worked in the pulp and paper industry in Maine for his entire career retiring in 2001.   He moved back to his family home in Greenville and in 2013 he moved to Searsmont.

 

Neil was a true woodsman and he loved being in the outdoors from his teen years at West Branch Pond Camps to snowmobiling in Canada and riding his ATV through the Maine woods.  He was a fisherman, hunter and wood cutter.  He met many interesting people and made many wonderful friends along the trails he traveled.  He will be missed.

 

Neil is survived by his wife Paula Beliveau of Searsmont, his son Jeffry and wife Jennifer DeBrosky of Appleton, his brother Norman and partner Robert of Fort Lauderdale FL. His grandchildren Adam, Myia, Sarah Boerum and her husband Brian, Isabelle and Mia DeBrosky and three great grand children.
