Bruce Noyes

Obituary of Bruce David Noyes

Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bruce David Noyes, 67, of Belfast, Maine, died Sunday morning, on June 4th, of complications from COPD.  Born in Rumford, Maine, on August 7th, 1955, he was the son of Perley Gardner and Pearl Nadine Moore Noyes.

Bruce grew up with his brothers and parents in West Peru, Maine.  In his teens, he learned the art of boxing from his father and enjoyed several years of this sport.  He graduated from Rumford High School in 1973.  He and his twin brother, Brian, would often be seen cruising around town in a 1971 Barracuda that they owned jointly.  Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family, especially his brother, Brian, his wife Sharon, and their family, at Roger’s Campground in Jefferson, New Hampshire and Dummer’s Beach in Weld, Maine.

Beginning his career in logging and lumbering before high school graduation, he spent 20 years in the field.  Subsequently,  he spent nearly 10 years working at Boise Cascade Paper Mill in several positions before moving to the coast where he worked for many years as a self-employed painter.

In 1977, Bruce married Dawn Wheeler of Dixfield;  although their marriage did not last, they had two lovely daughters Tanya Lynn and Nicole Dawn.  He later married Elizabeth English.  They enjoyed several years in the Camden area with her two children, Cassandra and Eric, before divorcing in 2000.

In recent years, Bruce lived with his dear friend, Bob Hughes, who provided much care and support throughout the years and especially during the final months of Bruce’s illness.  Bruce loved watching the Hughes, Cummings, and Lamar children at this home play and enjoy their childhood.  He also received excellent care and friendship from Pam, Jerica, and Ms. Hopkins who considered him family.

Bruce was a kind, generous, and giving individual.  He would literally give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need and did so many times in his life.  Many will remember him for his kind deeds.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents and a niece, Lindsay Elaine Noyes.  He leaves his daughters Tanya Pomerleau and her husband Michael, of Woolwich, Maine, and Nicole Waite and her husband Daniel, of Turner, Maine, as well as 6 beautiful grandchildren.  He also leaves brothers Brian and his wife Sharon of Dixfield, Maine, and Florida and Gary of Mexico, Maine,  his stepchildren, Cassandra English from South Portland, Maine, and Eric English from Rockport, Maine, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friend and caretaker, Bob Hughes.

In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a contribution to the American Lung Association in Bruce’s honor at https://tinyurl.com/3aa83uy6.  A graveside service is planned for the immediate family only at a later date.
