Jean - Aunt Jean for me - was the most nourishing person I have ever known. No matter the circumstance
Jean was always glad to see you, always wanted to know what was going on with others. She laughed easily and had the most marvelous smile. Her spirit was palatable. No matter the circumstance I always felt better after a visit with Jean.
I will miss her.

As someone that's had very close contact with your mom my words can never be enough to express the love & compassion I felt each morning when I'd walk into her room & she'd look @ me with her big smile & say Violet isn't it time for you to go home; you see I didn't only work overnight it'd be nothing for me to pull doubles so she'd see me here alot. Your mom was a very special person to me. Her love, compassion, & kind words gave me that little push when I needed it & I'll forever be greatful she came into my life. I'm truly missing her but know when I step on heavens shore I'll see her again. I want you all to know that the night before she passed Randal & I were in changing her & repositioning as hospice asked that we made sure that that took place for the rest of her time with us, just before we changed her she was moving around as though she was dancing with someone so we jokingly asked her if she was preparing for her dance with Joe & that biggest smile she always had on her face appeared & I said to her as serious as I could that it was ok to go home while the whole time I fought back the tears. So know your mom, gram or whoever she was to you is finally with the love of her life again dancing the streets of gold & rejoicing forevermore with God & the angel awaiting for our joining them soon. God bless.

Jeannie was such a delightful, sweet person. Her enthusiasm for scenic places, geology was a delight. We visited many places with Jeannie and Joe, and Jeannie always researched the places before we got there. She researched Coos Bay before she and Joe came to visit, and was able to tell us history and things we didn't know about our own area!! We had many many fun trips together with the Alexes. As Jeannie would say, "Such Good Memories"!
Love ya, Jeannie!

So very sorry to hear of Jean's passing. All three of our children were taught by her and declared her one of their very favorite teachers. She was also a colleague and good friend to my mother, who adored her - especially enjoying her famous "last day of school" celebration, where she and Joe opened their home to all of the elementary staff. She leaves a wonderful legacy of kindness and love.

Jean will be missed so much. I love her and am grateful for the time I had with her. She was my best friend and cribbage partner. She won our last game. So many memories.

Dearest Alex Family:
I've been thinking of all of you all day today, sending you lots of love and kindness during this day of loss and heartbreak. A great light went out when your mom left us yesterday. Aunt Jean was such a force in the world - so strong, kind, giving, honest, authentic, loving - and so many more adjectives that just begin to scratch the surface of who she was and what she contributed to her family and the world. I can't describe what she meant to me throughout my life. She was the prime example of a loving mother, wife, neighbor and teacher to me.
She provided a safe haven and loving home-away-from-home when I was at Colby. The last time I saw her in person, in Maine at Uncle Joe's memorial, she said to me, "And, Becky, you just became part of our family when you came to Colby!"
And I remember seeing her and your dad together as a couple, still in love after so many years, when I was a teenager and thinking to myself, "That's the kind of marriage I hope I have someday."
Perhaps one of the greatest things I will always remember about my Aunt Jean is her acceptance of all people; her deep interest and curiosity in everyone and how this came through in her conversations and unconditional love. But most of all, I will always remember how she always started off the conversation with, "I am so blessed!" No matter what life threw at her, she felt gratitude. All of these parts of Aunt Jean are what I will always remember, carry with me in my heart, and try my best to emulate, and so, in that way, keep her spirit alive.
Much love to all of you,
Becky

I am so sorry to hear of Jean's passing, as well as Joe's. I felt privileged to have met them both and worked for them while they were still in Liberty. I loved working with Jean in her garden and listening to her stories of growing up in Unity and her teaching days. She was a bright light in the world and will be missed.
My thoughts are with you all.
Love,
Debbi Lasky
