Albert Stawasz

Obituary of Albert Stawasz

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Albert Stawasz. Albert was born on March 16, 1943 to Frank and Eva Stawasz of Holyoke, MA, and passed away on May 20, 2023.

In 1961 Albert enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended submarine school, where he became qualified and was pinned with his “Dolphin” in 1965. He attended both Radioman Class “A” and “B” schools. He worked as a staff Radioman for COMSUBDEVGRU 2, then worked at a base Communications center as RM2(SS). During his naval career, Albert served on several submarines and surface vessels including the USS Sierra (AD-18), the USS John Adams (SSBN-620), the USS Aeolus (ARC-3), the USS Cubera (SS-347) and the USS Pargo (SSN-650). Albert also completed 3 Sea Trials and made deterrent patrols. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1970, Albert took the pride he had for his country, his service, and his love for submarines into the private sector where he worked for many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME. There, he repaired and refurbished submarine sonar transducers.

Albert met and married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1964. Following several relocations throughout Maine and NH, they settled in Searsport, ME where they could be closer to family and the ocean they loved.

When Barbara became disabled in 1999, Albert chose to retire and attended to her needs with great devotion and compassion until her untimely passing in 2015. After losing the love of his life, the love and admiration he had for his children and grandchildren only grew. He was very proud of his children and never hesitated to lend a helping hand or to tell them a funny story. His honor and devotion towards all that he loved, made him a wonderful doting husband, loving father, and an amazing “Grampy” to his grandchildren.

Albert remarried in 2017 and ever the caretaker, was also very dedicated to attending to the needs of his 2nd wife, Kimberly.

In his retired years, Albert enjoyed collecting coins and studying genealogy.

Albert is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Barbara, and a daughter, Lynn.

Albert is survived by his 2nd wife, Kimberly, and his 4 children; David, Jean, Donna, and Lynda, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and love. Our “phone a friend” is now at rest, may he rest in eternal peace.

A burial will take place at a later date in Newington, NH. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, ME.
