Obituary of Jane S. Drake

Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

JANE S. DRAKE, 73, passed away March 15, 2023 at her residence in Unity.  She was born December 28,1949 in Bronx, New York to Lee and Richard Williams. They moved to Freedom, Maine to raise their family. After she graduated from Mt. View H.S. in 1967, she studied at the University of Southern Maine in Portland and Gorham.  Then at Kennebec Valley Community College.  Graduating with studies in Phlebotomy and American Sign Language (ASL), she worked as an interpreter for the deaf for over 35 years and had her own business.

She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, shopping, yard sales, watching birds at her feeders. Jane loved the Lord and was a true inspiration to all who knew her. Her faith kept her strong even when cancer made her weak. Jane was a godly wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew and loved her. Knowing we'll see her again helps the grieving pain be bearable.

Jane loved reading her Bible and listening to and singing hymns.  Just two days before she passed she mouthed the words from the Gaither Vocal Band and said "I could listen to this forever" and smiled. Jane was very involved in her church at the Kennebec Valley Baptist Church in Waterville. She taught Sunday School, Awana, VBS and did sign language during the sermon. She was an Organ Donor speaker and encouraged everyone she could. Jane enjoyed traveling to Belize and swimming with the sharks. She also really enjoyed the picture quilt her younger sister Kathy made her which she could see everyday hanging on her wall.  Her sonsKirby and Adam both share a love for chooking that they learned from their mom.

Jane was predeceased by her first husband of 47 years, Elwood Bruce Hubbard and their daughter, Angela A. Hubbard.  Jane and Bruce had a total of three children and several foster children. Jane was so fortunate to have Raymond Drake come in to her life and they married in July of 2017 spending five beautiful years together.

Jane is survived by her husband Raymond H. Drake, her sons Kirby S. Hubbard and Adam J. Hubbard, her grandchildren, Hannah V. Hubbard and Ethan H. Tolman;  her six siblings, Carol Hustus, Linda Johnson, Dot Waterman, Dick Williams, Eileen Williams, and Kathy Hughes;  two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all who loved her dearly.

Jane is no logner in pain and is dancing with the angels. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast ME with friends and family gathering from 10 to 11 am for visiting hour followed by the funeral service.  Spring burial will take place at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
