Obituary of Richard Emery Thompson
Richard Emery Thompson, 75 of Searsport passed away January 25, 2023 in Belfast from fast moving leukemia. Richard was born October 9, 1947, the Eldest Son of Emery and Edna (Sprague) Thompson.
He was predeceased by his parents, his youngest brother Ronald Thompson, his daughter-in-law Robin (Bishop) Thompson, his infant son Scott Allen and many aunts and uncles. Richard is survived by his wife Roberta (Young) Thompson of Searsport whom he married February 15,1969; 21 days shy of their 54th Anniversary, his sons Donald Thompson of Maine and Gregory Thompson of Florida and his one and only Grandson Tristan Thompson of Maine, his brothers Bruce and Jocelyn (Herrick)Thompson and Danny Thompson all of N.H, his two nephews and niece; Chad Thompson, Kevin Thompson and Heather Coffey and their families, many cousins and friends.
He graduated in the last class from Crosby High School, class of 65. At the age of twenty he started his career with the Ford Industry. Starting with Lothrop Ford then Linnehan Ford, Darlings Bangor Ford and then retired after Dave Gould Ford shut down for a total of forty years of service. After retiring he worked part time jobs at Greenpoint Auto body and worked security at Verso Paper.
He was a member of the Searsport Lions Club and helped out with The Boy Scouts alongside Ken Strickland and James Gillway.
In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, canoeing and hiking or just being outdoors. He went to a lot of other states and some international travel with his wife and friends. When his son Donald was in the Scouts, they climbed Mt. Kathadin along with canoeing for ten days on the Allagash and seven days canoeing the West Branch of the Penobscot. When his son Greg was in Scouts he was lucky enough to go to Alaska with the troop. Richard always said going to Alaska was his favorite; I guess so he was there a total of three times.
Richard loved to tell jokes or quiz you on trivia, doing bird calls, talking on the phone with family and friends, telling stories, family reunions or just walking down to Halfmoon Pond.
We would like to thank the WCGH Oncology Dept and Dr Berg for doing what they could. A gathering will be held at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast on Sunday February 5, 2023 from Noon-2:00PM. There will be no services in the Spring. Cards and condolences can be sent to P.O Box 10 Belfast, ME 04915.
