Obituary of Roger A. Littlefield
Roger Allen Littlefield
March 5, 1952 – January 25, 2023
On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, Roger A. Littlefield of Freedom, a loving husband and father of four, passed away at age seventy. Roger graduated from Mt View HS in 1970 and married the love of his life, Edie (Bryant) in 1971. Together, they raised four children. A hardworking, charismatic and traditional family man, he spent his life building their space in the woods they call home. He’s worked many challenging professions from farming, wood cutting, mail delivery and gravel construction; none of which were more important to him than the family growing around him.
He is best known for his quick-witted humor, affectionate nature, and being a first rate story teller. Anyone meeting him for the first time was generally met with a gruff exterior but everyone knew he was a big sweetheart. The grandkids were especially fond of his quips – many, like “Eat your vegetables; it’ll put hair on your chest.” Or “You can’t go swimming because the water’s wet.” Anyone newly introduced to him was met with intentional wrong name calling in an attempt to be funny. Roger would often get his wife going with subtle jokes, in a way that the kids would see her reacting back; later, everyone would find humor in the resulting attitude Edie would have. These are the ways Roger would laugh, play, and love his family.
He adored his wife and family, so many stories can be shared in ways everyone saw and felt his love. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 52 years, Edie; his four children and their spouse/partners - Rachel, Ronnie, Emily, and Gwen; nine Grandchildren and their spouse/ partners – Alia, Caleb, Dominick, Aryn, Russell, Josh, Brandon, Johnny, and Briana; 3 great grandchildren – Paisley, Audree, and Diana. Roger also leaves behind brothers Earl and Terry, and sisters Donna and Dianne; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was predeceased by his mother Lois Bean, father John Littlefield Sr., and brother John Littlefield Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Freedom Congregational Church, 45 Pleasant St, Freedom, ME. 2-6pm. Roger will be buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Freedom, ME in the spring.
