Obituary of Richard H. Kershaw

After a brief illness Richard "Dick" Henry Kershaw II, 79, Freedom Maine, went home to be with his Lord January 13, 2023.       

He was born February 26, 1943 in Haverhill, MA to Charles R. and Carlotta (Bachini) Kershaw.  As a teen Richard joined the Marines, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, honorably discharged as an E5.  He was very proud of his military service and being a Marine Veteran.  After his service he worked at Verizon in COEI where he met Kathleen, they married in 1981 relocated to Freedom in 1982 making it their home. After retiring in 1991 he was rural mail carrier, and then drove school bus for RSU 3.  Never one to be idle, he explored anything that caught his eye, harness racing, building a boat and an airplane, coaching local farm and little league teams, scuba diving, Italian language classes, adult ice hockey, and certified as an umpire.   Richard was active in several churches in the area, his faith grounded and lifted him. Every day started with morning devotions.  

Richard was predeceased by his brother Charles Kershaw Jr., brother-in-law Paul Cosio, sister-in-law Pauline Kershaw, and niece Staci Ferguson. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Kershaw, daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Tim McEwen Knox, ME, sister Sylvia Cosio Atkinson NH, brother James Kershaw Haverhill MA, sister Donna Kershaw Atkinson NH, his wife's family, nephews, nieces, great nephews, nieces, cousins, special friends and hand-picked family.   

His hearty laugh, ready smile, quick wit and strong opinions will be missed. The 'smartest dog ever' TopKick, was his pride and joy. As per his request there will be no services. Please remember him kindly, continue sharing his upbeat love of life.  Memories and conolences may be shared on his triubte wall.
