Sorry to hear of Phillip's passing. I knew him in his younger years, when he was married to my aunt, Mary Philbrick Kimball, which resulted in a dear cousin, Herrick Kimball. Herrick settled in New York's Finger Lakes region where he and his family operate a small farm. He has also written several books related to small-scall and sustainable homesteading. One is "Writings of a Deliberate Agrarian", which features a cover photo of him with our grandfather, Percy O. Philbrick, who with Gerturde Lang Philbrick raised 11 humans on Forest Ave. in Ft. Fairfield.
I also recall Phillip's parents, Dr. & Mrs. Kimball, and their warm embrace of our family. during those years. I recall many days/nights at their lakeside cottage. And more profoundly, when my father - Willian E. Yerxa - was riddled with inoperable multisite cancer, he was supported in a terminal fast in Dr. Kimball's nursing facility. A great family.

I am very saddened to learn of Phil's death. He and I shared many experiences - childhood in Aroostook County as doctors' sons, Hebron Academy, Bowdoin College, and then many years on the medical staff of EMMC. I liked his quick wit, remembering a time when he and Janet won a flight with Gayle and me in my Cessna 172 -
Janet: Phil, it has only one engine!
Phil: That's all right, Janet, that means we have only one to worry about.
I don't have to imagine your sorrow, Janet. As the late Queen Elizabeth put it, "Grief is the price we pay for love"

I was very sorry to see this and send my condolences. I worked on the orthopedic unit at St Josephs in Bangor from 1975 until 1987 when I transferred to EMMC to work on neurology unit on Grant 5. Two years later, EMMC moved orthopedics from Grant 6 to Grant 5 and announced to staff that we would all have to take classes in the specialty of orthopedic nursing. Dr Kimball informed them "Bobbi doesn't need any further training, she is proficient in orthopedics." I worked night shift and he was always one that was easy to contact if one of his patients had a problem and made sure they received prompt care and did not make nurse feel guilty for contacting him in off hours. His patients always had good outcomes because of this unselfish attention to their needs.

Dear Janet and family,
I wish to express my deepest sympathy on your sudden loss of your beloved Philip. I pray you all will be comforted by the many years of good memories along with his eternal love. There is no doubt in my mind he is as close to you as the beating of your own hearts.
Dr. Kimball performed a total hip replacement on me while I was a nurse on the Respiratory Floor at EMMC. He was highly professional and of good character, it was plain to see. Old School. Though I had other conditions that prevented me from resuming that position, I am proud to be able to share with you, that the joint he put into me in 1997 still serves me well. He supposed it would last perhaps between 7-10 years due to my age. He said if I was lucky it may last 15 years. I am now 70 years old and hope it will continue to function well for some time yet. I am being closely monitored by others who acknowledge the longevity of this hip has much to do with Dr. Kimball's expertise.
I remember when I worked at the Paulsen House on Union Street how some of his patients sang his praises then. I was 19 years old. He helped so very many people in his lifetime. And I am one of the forutunate ones.
May he rest in peace. Once again, I am very sorry for this heart break and grief. Someday....hold on to that and make him proud by living your best life possible until then.
