Obituary of Barbara Shirley Wallace

Barbara Wallace born 3-25-1933, passed December 1, 2022

Mom was called home to be with her loved ones on December 1, 2022.  She was born to Vivian and Dexter Robinson in Belfast Maine.   She spent her life in the service of others in one way or another as was her nature.  While raising her 5 children she held numerous jobs often many at a time to support us. She worked for many years with her sister Nancy, as a chambermaid for New Meadows Inn.  She worked for many years at Elmhurst in Bath and often had folks come and stay with us to provide much needed respite to their families.   She also provided homes to many who lived in the Children's home on High Street in Bath, the home for children who were without their parents for one reason or another.  Her door was always open to friends and family alike in need.  Many neighborhood children considered our home their second homes which is just how mom liked it.  She loved doing for others in any way that she could.  In her later years she knitted and donated many, countless hats and mittens for adults and preemies. 

She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart and never hesitated to help out whenever possible.  She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed getting together with us kids and listening to us "cut up" and laugh. 

 She was predeceased by both of her parents, her brothers Dexter Robinson, Richard Robinson, Frank Robinson, her sisters Nancy Blackwell and Viola Thompson.  She is survived by her sister Kathy Robinson and brother Victor Robinson, her children Steve Gross, Cynthia Metivier, Pennie Labbe-Gross and her husband Thomas Gross, Cary Wallace, Melissa Wallace-Moore and her husband Darren Moore as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be held Friday May 12th, 1pm at the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast ME 04915.

The family will hold a celebration of life as well, date and location will be shared with friends and family.  Anyone wishing to honor our beloved mother may do so by reaching out to a friend or neighbor in need and lending a hand.
