Obituary of Frederick G. Greeley Jr.

Please share a memory of Frederick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A kind and loving man died tragically on Friday. Frederick "Rick" Greeley Jr., age 77, passed away from a sudden allergic reaction at the end of Duck Trap Road in Lincolnville ME. At the time of his death, Rick was surrounded by many kind and heroic members of the community who tried tirelessly to save his precious life. Rick was a man who had a great passion for life which he lived by his own rules. Love, generosity, honesty, and a strong feeling of what's right is right are the fundamental truths of who he was.

Rick was born on January 2, 1945, in Lynn Massachusetts the son of Frederick and Jean (Foster) Greeley Sr.

Before Moving to the "Great State of Maine" in 1970, Rick lived in Marblehead MA where he graduated from Marblehead High School in 1962. Upon his graduation, Rick joined the Navy at age 17. His service in the Navy played a large part in his life even after his honorable discharge. He felt a strong bond with other veterans and always carried the memories of those who did not get to come home. Rick attended and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, where he nurtured his passion for design and artistic expression. He became a designer and creative builder by trade, and a passionate artist. He was inspired by any design challenge. His innovative mind was always at work. He especially loved building small houses where the smallest detail stood out. As an artist, Rick loved to use his "Yankee" thriftiness to create both the beautiful and whimsical.

As any navy man would, Rick had a love of the water. He was a talented Sailor and loved passing his knowledge on especially to the young. His creature comforts were "innovative" cooking, football, racing, and a good beer with a friend and loved one.

Many friends call him “Professor Figg” because of his love of reading, fantastic memory, and eloquence while sharing adventures and stories with family and friends. Rick traveled the U.S extensively and loved to share many stories about his adventures. With all his amazing gifts Rick felt that his family and friends were the dearest of all. He loved his family fiercely, especially his wife and partner of 30 years and his grandsons, who gave him great joy and laughter for all of the heartbreakingly short time they had together.

He is predeceased by his parents and one sister Bette Greeley.

Rick is survived by his loving wife Karen Craig-Foley, his stepdaughter Melissa (Foley) Krygowski, her husband Robert, and grandsons Jonathan and Colin.  Whom he loved much. Rick is also survived by nephew Guy Sanger, nephew Jonathan Sanger, his wife Kathy their daughters Kylie and Elle; Niece Heidi (Sanger) her husband Chris Palmieri and their son Charles; Brother-In-Laws Jonathan Mills and his children, Rachel, Andrew, and Sara, Richard Mills, his wife Kathy, their children Carolyn, David, and Bradley.  He is also survived by many cousins nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
