Obituary of Margaret J. Hunter

Margaret "Meg" J. Hunter, 84 of Northport passed away on February 15, 2022, in Rockland. Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows. What are those blue remembered hills, What spheres, what farms are those? That is the Land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highway where I went And cannot come again. ( A.E. Houseman, from “A Shropshire Lad and Other Poems” ) It’s hard and sad to write about someone you loved who has passed away. My beautiful wife, Margaret Jean Hunter (Meg), was born and raised in Croydon, Sussex, UK. on 10/07/1937 to John and Winifred Sharp, John an accountant working for Lloyds of London and Winifred a housewife. Meg loved to share her memories of working at the MGM Studios in Borehamwood, UK, a job she loved, and where she met film stars and many showbiz personalities. Meg moved to Australia, then to Canada before arriving in Camden, Maine, where she was involved with many organizations in the surrounding areas, including the Owls Head Transportation Museum, of which she was a founding member. She enjoyed highlighting her vintage clothing collection, worn by participating ladies from the community, and she was often seen driving her 1931 MG C Type Montlhery Midget around the surrounding area, which always reminded her of her place of birth. She was an enthusiastic and competitive driver racing her car in many vintage races around the States and including the Singapore Vintage Car Race. She met her husband Charlie in 1991 at an Alcoholics Anonymous in Long Beach, California. We were married on February 14, 1992, on the Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach. We resided in Lakewood Ca., until, in 1994 after a short Christmas visit to Camden, we bought a home in Northport, reportedly the oldest home in the town, known as the Red Gables which needed a lot of work, and has been our family home since 1994. In Camden, Meg went to work as a Proof Reader for the late Dr. Benjamin Spock, the famous author of “Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care,” nearly up till his death in 1998 in Camden. Her work as assistant to the manager at Kno-Wal-Lin Health Care was meaningful and important to Meg, who believed strongly in the service the agency provides to our community. Meg was also very active in Alcoholics Anonymous. Until recently, she was a leader and faithful attendee at her Saturday noon meeting in Belfast, until dementia started affecting her memory and thinking skills. One of Meg’s happiest days in Maine was October 19, 2012, when she received her US Citizenship in Portland, Maine. She was thrilled to bits. A truly beautiful person in spirit and appearance, Meg’s winning smile and infectious laughter will be missed and remembered with love by many friends and colleagues. She especially valued her association with the Belfast Historical Society, where she shared her expertise on vintage clothing and period art and furnishings. Meg leaves behind her husband, Charlie Hunter, of 30 years; two step-daughters, Cynthia Lynn Hunter and her partner Sandy Giffen, also Connie Jo Cestr (Hunter) and husband Johnny Cestr, all residing in California; She also leaves behind her cousin and only remaining family member, Andrew Beaumont, his wife Carol, and their son Chris, of Barnham, Sussex, UK. Rest In Peace My Dear Till We Meet Again Which We Surely Will. I Love You Dearly, Charlie A service will be held privately for more information you may contact Charlie directly. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com
