Obituary of Marjorie T. Bowen

Marjorie T. Bowen, 93, of Hampden, passed on Nov. 4, 2021, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor. She was born Sept. 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Donald and Doris (Nickerson) Thayer of Swanville.  Marjorie graduated from Crosby High School and married H. Arland Bowen, Jr., on Aug. 11, 1946. They lived in Bangor until they built their own home in Hampden. Marjorie worked at the YWCA in Bangor as adult program director until her retirement in 1989. Arland and Marjorie enjoyed going on many trips and spending summers at their camp on Swan Lake with family and friends. Marjorie was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 60 years and a member of the Hampden Highlands Methodist Church for 58 years. Also, she was a member of the Hampden Garden Club and the Hampden Historical Society. Marjorie enjoyed doing paintings and crafting projects. Many of her friends and family have examples of her quilts and paintings.  Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Arland, and her sisters, Edith, Shirley, and Barbara. She is survived by her sons, Robert Bowen and partner, Anne, of Brooksville and David Bowen and wife, Betty, of Swanville; two grandchildren, Arland Bowen and Amy Bowen, both of Swanville. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Charlotte Bowen, of Warren, and her nieces, Janet, Nancy, and Judy. Marjorie is also survived by Anne's family-Nevill, Adrien, Laura, Paige, Ivy, Lila, Clara, Andre, and Kaiden.  There will be a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Swanville at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
