Obituary of Stephen Russell Mathieson

Steve Mathieson of Montville passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 9, 2021. He was born October 1, 1951, in South Hope to Bill and Esther Mathieson. Steve was a farmer by blood, a methodically hard worker who rose when dawn was just a thought, and worked until dusk. Despite the family farm closing with the passing of his father, he continued to hay the fields and keep a few cattle. As unfettered as his early adulthood, they grazed as a continual reminder of familial accomplishments and subsisting vitality. For over a decade, he was employed by the City of Belfast Public Works where he worked with the same meticulous vigor required in his youth to maintain roads he’d have been happy to show you. He married his wife, Sheree, in 1990. Over the next quarter century, with the help of his wife, he would build their family home from the timber on the land and his own resourcefulness. He cut his own firewood, was always tinkering, and invariably lent a hand to others He was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriots fan, always adorning the shirt or cap to show it. He could be found dropping in on family and friends and watching or listening to his beloved NESN. He is survived by his wife, Sheree; son, Heath; daughter, CJ; sisters, Jane and Rachel; brother, Greg as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Esther Mathieson; sister, Rosalie; and brother and partner in crime, Donald. A memorial service will take place outdoors in the Long Field, Kingdom Rd Montville, Saturday September 18, 2021 at 2pm.
