Belfast - Ulmer Charles Russ, better known as “Ollie” and “Sarge”, died peacefully at home with his family around him. He was born November 2, 1925, in Belfast Maine, the son of Mina Francis (Higgins) Russ and Ralph Ulmer Russ. Ollie finished 8th grade before he started working on Harry Bowen’s farm, from there he worked on the docks, loading and unloading cargo, as well as a truck driver for Maplewood and Ken Flagg. Ollie was in the Army and attained the rank of Sargent First Class during the Korean War. In the war, he was wounded six times for which he received a Purple Heart. Ollie enjoyed hunting and fishing and every summer you would find him in his garden, as long as there wasn’t a Red Sox game on to watch. Ollie was always fixing broken toys and other items; the grandchildren learned “Papa will fix it.” In addition to his parents, Ollie was predeceased by his twin brother (at birth) and three sisters. Ollie is survived by his wife of 66 years, June Rose Nickerson, and their four children; Timothy Russ and Denise Beckett, Belfast, ME, Lucinda Russ and Matt Gerrish, Searsmont, ME, Jacqueline and Mark Pelletier, Westbrook, ME, and April and Dean Wood, Worcester, MA, grandchildren; Jennifer Russ, Gwen Russ, Jacinda and Kevin Littlefield, Chadd Pelletier and Zachary Pelletier, great-grandchildren; Hannah and Cora Littlefield. He is also survived by special fur-puppy Ceasar “Hotshot”, as well as many nieces and nephews, and three special sisters-in-law. A special thanks to the Sussman House, nurse David and CNA Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sussman House, 40 Anchor Drive, Rockport ME 04856
