Obituary of Walter Lloyd Hamm

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter Lloyd Hamm, 88 years old, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and savior on Saturday July 17, 2021 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. Walter was born on October 8, 1933, in Swanville, Maine to Cyrus and Daisy (Arbuckle) Hamm. He had a mother who was loving, caring and a hard-working father whom he learned how to be a supporter for his own family. He later moved to Massachusetts and married his first wife Joyce (Churchill) Matison whom they shared two children. They later moved back to Maine and resided in Macleod’s trailer park, and he worked at Truit brothers. Each day he came home from work and would go have coffee with his dear friend Wendall Macleod at Darres’s restaurant. He enjoyed hunting with his brother-in-law, Bud Dyer and was good at playing lawn darts. Later he married his then wife Ruth (Gilmore) Hamm. He retired from Penobscot frozen food. They spent summers camping which he loved, even driving all the way to Utah. They enjoyed car rides and shopping, never knew each day where or what they would be doing. He was a long-time member of Swanville community church and served for years as a deacon. They all became is second family. He and his wife Ruth, sister Dot and brother-in-law Bud formed the gospel singing group “The Silver Saints” and enjoyed singing at area churches and each summer helped organize an outdoor concert at the church. Walter loved singing for the Lord. He loved celebrating holidays with family and eating pie, biscuits with butter and Ruthie’s home-made pickles. He took pride in keeping his home and yard always looking nice, as well as feeding the birds. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends, especially his daughter. Daddy, I will see you again in heaven with my arms open wide and a smile on my face to tell you I love you. Till then you are in my heart and will be so missed. But when I think of you, I will smile for I am grateful and blessed God gave you to me as my daddy. I am at peace, my souls at rest, there is no need for tears for with your love I was blessed for all these many years. Walter was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings; Rudolph, Raymond, Carl, Billy, Murial, Celia, Tena, Annie May, Ethel, Dottie, Kay and Carlene and a stepdaughter Rhonda Rhodes.
