Obituary of Clyde W. Wellman

BELMONT CLYDE W. WELLMAN, SR., 82, passed away unexpectedly in his home in Belmont on June 21, 2021. He was born April 15, 1939, son of Otto and Charlotte Wellman. After graduating from Crosby High School in Belfast in 1958, he joined the Navy where he served for 20 years and retired as a Machinist Mate, Master Chief Petty Officer (E9). He and his family returned to Maine where they purchased a small farm in Belmont. He loved working the farm and sharing the vegetables from his big gardens with his family and friends. He worked for the Town of Belmont for 20 years holding various titles such as Administrative Assistant, Deputy Treasurer, Animal Control Officer, Road Commissioner as well as being a member of the Town's Volunteer Fire Department. Clyde is survived by his wife of 63 years, Verlesta (Hills) Wellman; sons, Clyde Jr and his wife Anita, Ronald and his wife Holly, granddaughter Maranda and her husband Noah LaForge and his sister Joyce Sweetman and brother Leroy Wellman. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughters Cheryl and Teresa, a son Michael and brothers Otto, Jr and Paul and a sister Lucille Nickerson. Graveside services with military honors will be held August 7th at 2 p.m. at Hills Cemetery in Lincolnville. A Celebration of Life will be held directly after the service at Belmont Community Center at 613 Back Belmont Road, Belmont. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.ripostafh.com.
