Obituary of Polly A. Schinella
POLLY A. SCHINELLA, passed away May 19, 2021 at her home after a brief illness. She was born February 12, 1941, the youngest daughter of Belle M. Young and Fredrick (Bud) Young, founder of Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast, Maine.
Polly was a life-long resident of Belfast. She worked as early as she can remember in the Lobster Pound with her parents and siblings. She married David L. Clements of Searsport in 1957. They had 3 daughters together, Linda, Julie and Sharon. Polly worked several jobs while raising her family. She was divorced in 1976 and remarried later to Douglas Schinella of Concord, NH.
Polly began a position at LaVerdiere's Super Drug Store in 1972, and became the first female manager trainee in the State, managing the Belfast store for several years. In 1979, Polly obtained her license in real estate and sold property for more than 30 years, earning many awards including the Million Dollar Award in 1994.
Polly was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed meeting new people and would think of ways to bless anyone she met. She enjoyed baking and giving gifts to her friends, driving and gardening. She loved animals, was devoted to her pets and leaves behind her companion cat, Abby.
In addition to her parents, Polly was predeceased by her sister, Belle M. (Young) Snow, her brother, Bob R. Young, Sr. and his wife Claire (Miles) Young and ex-husband Douglas Schinella. She is survived by her daughters Linda M. Ryan of Augusta, Julie A. Hilliard of Belgrade and Sharon L. Merry of Swanville; brother-in-law Ed Snow of Searsport; four nieces, two nephews; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud.
She loved telling old stories to friends and family. Her dearest friends were Frances Clark of Swanville, Nancy Whitely of Northport, Barbara Hutchins of Belfast and Joanie Heartquist of Troy. She loved them dearly and treasured their friendship.
Family and friends are invited to call from 1-2 p.m. with service at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 24th at Riposta Funeral Home with Bishop Rick Stoops officiating.
Flowers may be sent to Riposta’s: In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The First United Pentecostal Church, 8 Wilson Court, Augusta, ME 04330 for a special missions project in Polly's honor.
