Obituary of Betty Lou Keating

Betty Lou (Black) Keating, 74, of Belfast, passed away at her home with her husband by her side on February 9, 2021. She was born June 24, 1946 in Thorndike the youngest child of Lewis and Dorothy (Chapman) Black. Betty worked for many years at Brooks Drug Store, was a former owner of The Belfast Answering Service, and then retired after many years as Office Manager at Maine Port Tow Boats and Penobscot Bay River Pilots. Betty’s pride and joy was being Nana to her two granddaughters, Hillary and Katie. Betty never missed a sporting event or dance recital her grandchildren were in. She enjoyed countless hours watching them, cheering for them and their fellow teammates. Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her family. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings: Grace (Black) Merrithew, Theodore “Teddy” Black, Kenneth “Red” Black, William ‘Billy” Black and his wife, Charlene; John “Jackie” Black, her brother-in-laws: Thomas Brooks, Jerry Harford, Jeff Harford and Ernie Hall; and sister-in-law, Judy Keating. Betty is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert B. Keating, her two children: Kevin Keating and his spouse, Steven, and Wendy Keating-Seekins and her husband, Benjamin; her two granddaughters, Hillary Seekins, and Kathryn Seekins and fiancé, Kenneth Royster; her extended in-law family: Rodney Merrithew, Phyllis Brooks, Edward Keating and wife, Karen, Ronald Harford, and wife, Mackie, Marcia Harford, William Harford, and wife, Pam, Joni Smith and husband, Richard, Ethel Whitcomb and husband, Rusty, and Stephen Harford, and wife, Jane; as well as special nieces Cindy Seekins and Catherine Carroll, as well as many other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Betty’s caregivers, Darcey Fraser and Vanessa Williams of Kindred Hospice as well as, Lynda Garnett and Heidi Gardner. A graveside service will be held in the spring, May 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Smart Cemetery in Belfast. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, Maine. 04915.
