Lorraine R. Cross, 86, of Belmont, Maine, passed away on December 2nd 2020 at her home in Belmont. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Memorial service will be held at a later time, likely during the Summer of 2021, at the Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast Maine. Urn burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Belmont. No current visitation hours will be held. Lorraine was born in Belfast, Maine to Raymond and Lorena Ryan on April 22, 1934. She went to high school at Belfast Area High School and later earned her General Educational Development (GED) diploma. For most of her life she worked in the restaurant industry and at one time owned and operated ‘The Beach Inn’ restaurant in Lincolnville, Maine. Lorraine enjoyed animals of all types and was an avid bird watcher. She also was involved in Maine PBS. Lorraine is survived by her Children: Son, Dana Hemenway, Walpole, NH. Daughter, Dianne Dow, Plainfield, IL. Son, Darrell Hemenway, Belmont, ME. And daughter, Donna Schurick of White Plains, NY. Siblings: Sister, Jeannie Ryan, Northport, ME. Sister, Janice Cobb, Belmont, ME. Brother, Kenneth Ryan, Belmont, ME. And sister, Shirley Hawes of Rockport, ME. Grandchildren: Grandson, Christopher Dow, Chicago, IL. Grandson, Jonathan Dow, Plainfield, IL. Granddaughter, Becky McCook, Jacksonville, FL. Granddaughter Katie Hemenway, Waldoboro, ME. Granddaughter, Jacqueline Schurick, Johnson City, TN. And granddaughter, Elizabeth Schurick of White Plains, NY. Lorraine also had three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husbands, William C. Hemenway, Jr., and Wilfred Cross. She is also predeceased by her siblings Raymond Ryan, Harriet McTaggart, Ronald Ryan, Richard Ryan, and Roger Ryan. Memorial donations in Lorraine’s name may be made to Maine Public Broadcasting, Lewiston, ME. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Home Hospice Services of Rockport, ME.
