Gary Farmer

Obituary of Gary Wayne Farmer

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
October 30, 1938 - September 16, 2020 Dr. Gary Farmer was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota until his mid to late teens. His father was very, very tired of the snow so his parents moved to Miami, Florida. Nice there if you like Palm Trees and don’t mind Palmetto beetles. Thanks to his mother, Gary was able to do four years of college at the University of Miami with a BS in Chemistry and a BA in Psychology. Best course of all time was Comparative Anatomy. It still amazed him that so many "ancient" animals shared similar anatomical features with humans. On arriving at the Student Union at the University of Miami in 1956, Gary was greeted by nice young men parting out free packs of cigarettes. Think "live by the sword and die by the sword," truer words were seldomly spoken. His academic career was highlighted from 1960-1964, culminating in his MD Degree. The U. S. Government and Department of the Army provided a Doctor Draft from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam war. Internship and medical residency were scattered from 1964-1965 and 1967-1969. Gary’s other academic highlight was a 2-year fellowship in Gastroenterology at UCLA that followed from 1969-1971. He was in private practice of Internal Medicine and GI from 1971-1994 and then moved to Maine to practice Gastroenterology until a few years ago. He really enjoyed the patient care and endoscopic procedures. His parents, Wesley R. Farmer and Lima E. Farmer lived long lives and passed away a few years ago. Gary leaves behind his loving wife, Linda, of over 35 years of marriage. She will be left to deal with Trump and COVID which will keep her anxiety levels appropriately elevated. He also leaves behind his brother Steven, who lives with his wife in Floral City, Florida. Dr. Farmer greatly appreciates the friendships and support of his patients, family and friends. There will be no services or need for flowers or other remembrances. Enjoy your lives, do good work, and VOTE!
