Obituary of David Norman Barrows

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Norman Barrows, 64, of Lincolnville, Maine passed away on September 13, 2020. David was born in Camden, Maine, on March 18th, 1956. He spent his childhood roaming the Moody Mountain woods in Lincolnville with his beagle and a .22 rifle. Every year he went to camp in northern Maine during the fall for deer season and in the winter for ice fishing with his closest friends. He was well known to our community and visitors as “Dave” at Rankin’s Hardware, where he worked for over 40 years. He was deeply committed to conservation and to the community, serving as a Lincolnville Selectman, on the conservation commission as well as the budget committee. The Barrows family has laughed and cried with friends, neighbors, and community members. Everyone has a story to tell about Dave, of a time he pulled them out of a ditch after their car went off the road, or a time when he found a new and creative use for duct tape, or a time when he left camp in the middle of the night to fix a furnace, only to be back in camp in time for breakfast. What stands out from all these stories is how he quietly did whatever needed to be done, often without being asked, and without complaint. David knew how to spin a yarn, was known for his quick wit, and a knack for mischief. He loved planning the perfect joke gift for a long-time friend or a scavenger hunt for his children and grandsons during the holidays. We will all remember his sense of humor: the gentle teasing, the twinkle in his eye, his laugh that filled the room. David is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons Jonathan, Gary, and Bert; daughter, Heather; grandsons Wesley, Damian, Matthew, and Elias; and his sister, Judy. David touched many lives in our community. Join us in helping to keep his memory alive – the next time you see a friend or neighbor in need of help, do what Dave would do and quietly lend a hand – just as so many of you have done already. Due to the spike in COVID-19 cases David Barrows service for 13 Nov at 11:30am has been changed to private. Attendance is virtual only and will be livestreamed on the West Rockport Baptist Church Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/wrbaptist/ There will be no reception afterwards. We deeply appreciate everyone's understanding and acceptance of these additional safety measures. The family will host a remembrance event possibly as early as July 2021 in hopes that COVID-19 will be over and the community will be able to gather safely in person.
