Obituary of Kory Albert Schmidt

Kory Albert Schmidt (Schmidty) fondly known as, to his friends and fellow comrades, 27 died tragically in a motorcycle accident on August 25, 2020. Kory is from both Searsport and Deer Isle, Maine. Kory Proudly began his service to his country in 2011 as a member of the Maine Army National Guard. He enlisted as a 91B, wheeled vehicle mechanic. During his time in service, Kory received many awards and accommodations, during his time overseas he served as part of operation Enduring Freedom, where he received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Serivice Medal and Combat Action Badge, just to name a few before honorably ending his military career as a combat veteran in 2019. In his civilian life Kory worked as a carpenter with his stepfather and uncle of Morwell builders before working as a dock hand at the Stonington lobster co-op. He later worked as a stearman on a lobster boat for a time. In 2018, Kory started working for K & M Power where he worked as a Mechanic Millwright until his passing. Some of his passions were: riding his beloved Harley alongside his fellow brothers, singing his favorite songs with his sister, collecting guns, playing cards, and welding. Kory will always be remembered for his vibrant smile, fearless zest for life, steadfast beliefs, strong work ethic, smart wit, and for his amazing hugs! Kory will be sadly missed by so many, from his “brothers in arms” to his “brothers on wheels” and many friends along the way. However he will be most deeply missed by his family, his parents Melissa Wells (Mother), Howard Wells (Step Father), his adoring little sister Ashten Wells who was always at the ready by his side, his father Bert Schmidt, his sisters Shauna, Shanoah, and his brothers Jake and Alex, along with his nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished so much. Kory left a lasting impression on everyone he ever met. Kory was extremely passionate and proudly defended all of which he believed and loved. The Celebration of life part of his service will be held at 3pm, September 27th at the Unity Legion hall, open to anyone who would like to pay their respects to the family. Kory will be having a private service at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.
