Obituary of Charles W. Clark

Monroe - Charles Webster Clark, 68, passed away August 15, 2020 in Belfast. He was born October 23, 1951 in Searsport, to Robert & Marion (Curtis) Clark. Charlie was raised in Searsport by his “Nanny”, Janie Curtis & grandfather Herman Curtis. Upon graduating high school, he joined the National Guard & served for 6 years. He was employed at a young age at the St. Regis Mill in Bucksport (later known as Champion, IP, and Verso Paper), and worked there for 34 years until his retirement in 2007. Charlie had a great work ethic and instilled it in everyone he knew. Working long hours during a shutdown was certainly not out of the ordinary, as he believed in supporting his family to the fullest. In the mid 1990’s, he started his own welding and fabrication business; Monroe Welding. He produced many trailers, enclosed trailers, multiple conveyor jobs for the Bucksport mill, and also performed various welding projects for local farmers, truck drivers, etc. Not only could Charlie fix anything, but he could also build anything. Aside from a welding shop, he also had a woodworking shop where he built amazing shaker style furniture and all sorts of items for his daughter’s primitive shop, which was also built by him. His creativity and craftsmanship were outstanding. If you knew Charlie, you would know that he liked to play as hard as he worked. Anything motorized, from drag racing cars, his 2 wheel drive pull trucks; the “Monroe Mauler”, “Dad’s Gone Crazy” and “Outlawed Alkyhaulic” , to snowmobiles and racecars, Charlie liked to be part of it all. He believed in doing it and doing it well. A great joke or dancing to some Beach Boys and the No Warning Band were par for the course. He also greatly enjoyed high school basketball games. Charlie was predeceased at the young age of 4 by both of his parents. He was also Predeceased By his Nanny , Janie Curtis, grandfather, Herman Curtis, inlaws, Bud & Betty McAlpine, sisters, Ruth Ashley, Faye Webster & Joan Seekins. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and his daughter, Amy Orcutt, and her husband Alan. He took great pride in being a wonderful Papa to his grandchildren Alannah, Sydney, & Emma. Also surviving, are his siblings, Bobby Seekins and his wife Shirley, sister Rita Dakin, brother Larry Clark and his wife Nancy, brother in laws, Joe Ashey, Jerry McAlpine, Larry McAlpine and wife Kathy, and his labradoodle, Ben. Several cousins, nieces & nephews, and close friends, Darren Shute, Randy Nason, Gordon Deane, Richie Bartlett, and the entire Ryan Deane Racing family. Charlie was loved by a lot of people, far & wide. He was competitive, honest to the core, free spirited, overly generous, & he loved beyond measure. He will be missed, and his absence will greatly be felt by all who knew him. Quite a guy, and full of character, he lived a life certainly well lived. As he said “ I lived it my way.” Dad. Papa. Husband. Friend.... The Best. At his request, there will be no formal funeral services, however, Charlie was always up for a celebration. His family would love for you to join them on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Steamboat Wharf on Steamboat Avenue in Searsport from 2pm-4pm. There will be a memorial from 2-2:30pm, followed by some great music and good eats. Please make sure to dress casual, and be sure to bring your own lawn chair.
