Obituary of Richard F. Chapman

BELFAST RICHARD F. CHAPMAN, 79, passed away at home with loved ones by his side on August 10, 2020, after a long illness. He was born in Waterville, Maine February 24, 1941, to Fred and Edythe (Murphy) Chapman. As a young man, Richard served his county with honor in the Navy. After his discharge, he began a career in law enforcement and security and worked several jobs including the Somerset Sheriff Department as a deputy, and security at Unity College, the University of Maine at Farmington, Bank of America in Belfast, and Webber Oil to name a few. Richard loved living in Belfast and being near the ocean, going to City Park as often as possible to overlook the water. He also enjoyed hosting friends at the home he shared with long-time companion, Barbara Hughes, and will be dearly missed by friends, family and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by a brother Wayne, and a sister Beverly. Richard is survived by his long-time companion and caregiver, Barbara Hughes; a brother Lynden Chapman and wife Monique of Lisbon; sister Cheryl Barnes of Skowhegan; his son James Chapman and daughter Beth Huff, both of Skowhegan; several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as Barbara's children: Adella Russell, Abram, Stephen and Tim Guay.
