Obituary of Barry Woods

Barry W. Woods, age 67, of Unity, ME died on August 1, 2020. Barry is survived by daughter Veronica Woods of Unity, ME, brother Peter F. Woods and sister-in-law Kathleen M. Woods, niece Kerrie M. Woods Pollick, her husband David and their children, Devlin and Keenan all of NC, nephew Peter G. Woods of NY, his wife Carol Ann Woods and their son Corey of NY, and brother-in-law James R. Kirkpatrick of IA. Barry also leaves behind Wilson and Eleanor Hess of Freedom, ME; Deborah, Jared, Addy, Maggie, Clara, Tilly and Josie Harbaugh of Lincolnville, ME; Lurah Hess and Travis Curren of Marion, IN; Kimberly, Mike and Samantha of Mechanicsburg, PA; and Tess Fairbanks Woods and Miles Constantine of Bethlehem, NH; as well as so many other dear friends, colleagues and students. Barry is preceded in death by his father Peter P. Woods, mother Phyllis K. Woods, brother Joseph M. Woods all of NY and his sister Donna Woods Kirkpatrick of IA. Barry was a great friend, teacher, coach, mentor and colleague to many. He worked/served as a professor at Unity College for 44 years, arriving in 1976 to “come help build a college.” A pillar of the Unity College community, Barry worked tirelessly to engage students in innovative and meaningful ways and to collaborate with colleagues to support and enhance the mission of the institution. He was especially proud of his collaborative work that led to a cross curricular statistics program. Barry brought humor, loyalty and humility to all that he did in life and true to his nature, he worked quietly and diligently behind the scenes to ensure the success of his students, his colleagues, the institution, and his friends. Although Barry left New York as a young adult, he never left behind his love of the New York Yankees and remained an avid, lifelong fan. Due to concerns about Covid-19, a service will not be held at this time.
