Please share a memory of Winifred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Winifred “Winnie” Maybell (Merrithew) Reynolds passed away on Monday, July 13. Winnie was born on February 23, 1929, in Palermo, Maine, to Willie R. and Mary G. (Osgood) Merrithew. She attended Besse High School in Albion, Maine. Winifred married Homer Erwin Reynolds, Jr. on November 30, 1948 and they moved to Massachusetts where Winnie worked for Raytheon Company. They moved around New England but eventually returned to Maine where Winnie and Homer worked on their poultry farm on Route 137 in Waldo for many years. The house was always full of family and friends and had an open door to all. It was while living at the farm that Homer’s cousin, Sheryl (Gortney), moved in with them to finish high school and a very special, lifelong bond was formed. Winnie loved spending time with her family and often referred to her nieces and nephew as “her kids”. Winnie enjoyed cooking, baking, and her flower gardens. Upon retiring from farming, Winnie went on to work at Matthew Brothers and then Reny’s both in Belfast. Winifred was predeceased by her parents; her husband Homer Erwin Reynolds; her son Larry Erwin Reynolds; brother Charles R. and wife Mildred (Lowell) Merrithew; sister Gloria J. (Merrithew) Carey Monson and husbands Raymond F. Carey, Jr. and William C. Monson; granddaughter Diane L. Reynolds; grandnephew Tucker Jordan Sirois; and special friend Corliss A. Holland. Winnie is survived by Sheryl (Gortney) and husband Larry Schaub of Belfast; special nieces and nephew Lisa M. (Carey) and husband Donald W. Sirois of South China; Rena A. Carey and Chris Murray of Veazie; Jeffrey S. Carey of Hampden; niece Bernice “Bunny” (Merrithew) and husband John Jones of Palermo; granddaughters Deborah Flagg and Christine Norris; and several great-grandchildren, and grand nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Windward Gardens in Camden for their compassionate and loving care. Visiting hours will be Friday, July 17, from 2-3 pm at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast with a family grave side burial at the Sawyer Cemetery in Plymouth, Maine, at 4 pm.
