Obituary of Geraldine B. Cyr

Geraldine (Gerry) Cyr of Knox passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020 at Woodland’s Memory Care in Rockland, Maine. Gerry, the Daughter of Edward and Katherine Benedix was born on October 22, 1928.She met the love of her life, Leo Cyr, at the wedding of Edward and Alice Benedix. They were married on September 4, 1950 and were married for fifty-two years. After graduating from Stephens High School in 1948 she spent her early years employed by the Diamond Match Company in Dixfield, Maine. After moving from Rumford to Monroe she worked together with her husband, Leo on their dairy farm. She was also employed by Penobscot Poultry and when the business closed, she then obtained her CNA certificate and worked as an in-home care giver for several years. She then went to work at Penobscot McCrum. She was later employed at Duck Trap River of Maine until her retirement. She enjoyed going to Foxwood with her husband. She and Leo spent many evenings playing cards with her sisters Maddy and Irene and their husbands Eddie and Johnny. She also spent many hours fishing for mackerel with her friend Anna. Her many hobbies included sewing, knitting and crocheting. More than that she enjoyed family gatherings, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Co-operative Extension, The Red Hat Society and The Widows Club. She is survived by her six children. Joan Raven and her husband Roger, Judith Gallant and her husband Stephen, Jean Theriualt and her husband Terry, Jeffrey Cyr and his wife Angel, Jackie Cyr and his wife Colleen, and Joseph Cyr and his wife Julie. Grandchildren, Jillian Tucker, Jennifer Ponder, Benjamin, Matthew and Katie Carmichael, Brandon and Danielle Cyr, Christopher Cyr, Jessica Stasulis and Corey Cyr, Elida Dickey, Sadee, Emma and Silas Mehuren, Shelby and Tyler Pinkham. Great-grandchildren Jarrod and Jeremiah Ponder, Ignacio Carmichael, Lilee Carmichael, Gracee Cayouette, Hannah Chuba, Aiden Cyr, Keegan Caparotta, Harper Statulis, Savannah and Cameron Cyr and Atlas Gonzales. Her sister Maddy Fournier and brother James Benedix.
