Irene Moehs and I have known each other ever since she and her family moved to Old Forge, NY in 1970. We became good friends over the years as we had family, music, books, and the library in common. I served as the director of the Old Forge Library and Irene was an active volunteer in The Friends, and she also became a member of the library board serving as the president for several terms.
My husband, Albert, and I always enjoyed a special evening of music with the Moehs' family during the Christmas holidays, celebrating Irene's birthday as well. Another special memory I have was when she became an American citizen. She asked our good friend, Mirnie Kashiwa, and me to stand up with her during the patriotic ceremony and we were both honored to be with her on that very special day.
Later she moved to Liverpool, NY where her son, Joachim, lived. Several years later Albert and I purchased a second home there to be near our son, Jon, and his family. Happily, Irene, Albert and I enjoyed meals together and many musical and library events, until she moved to Maine to be with her son, Morten, and his family. Then we became pen pals...
Albert and I send our thoughts and prayers to the Moehs' family during this very sad time for all of us.
