Richard “Rick” A. Marsden, 75 passed away on April 20, 2020, in Belfast Maine. He was the son of Herbert Marsden and Dorothy A. (Sparks) Marsden, born in Boston, Massachusetts January 18, 1945. Rick served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970 as a Ground Electronics Repair Technician. He graduated from Northeastern University with a B.S. Mechanical Engineering in 1973 and retired from Raytheon Company in Massachusetts after 20 years of service as a Project Manager on US Department of Defense Contracts. Prior to Raytheon he was teacher of Electronics, Mathematics and Mechanics at Lynnfield High School in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He was also very active in numerous Veteran organizations: Commander of American Legion in Maynard Massachusetts, Finance Officer of American Legion in Belfast Maine, finance officer and assisted in establishment of AMVETS post in Belfast Maine. As a boy Rick was very active in the YMCA and in his retirement years he served on the board of Directors of the Waldo County YMCA. At a young age, Rick bought land in Swanville, Maine. Over many years, his longtime dream of building a house on the land was complete and became home in “retirement”. There were many weekend projects involving building, fixing or adding to the house. He did a lot of the work himself as he was very skilled in construction, plumbing, electrical, etc. For many years planting and maintaining a Christmas tree farm was a hobby. A family event each November was the harvest of about 25 trees that would be loaded on top of the Dodge – quite a sight rolling south on the Maine Turnpike! He loved delivering them to friends and family back in Massachusetts. Rick also loved to travel with his wife Suzanne. In retirement years, there were several trips to Disney World, and cruises in Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean. A favorite of his were the many trips to Hawaii to celebrate their anniversary. Rick is survived by his best friend and loving wife of almost 39 years, Suzanne (Allen) Marsden, his son Douglas A. Marsden and wife Kristen, his daughter Diane (Marsden) Morley and husband Ryan, and four grandchildren who he was very proud of: Jacob Marsden, Julia Marsden, Allison Morley and Ty Morley. He is also survived by his brother Kent Marsden and his two pet cats Benjamin and Misty. Richard was predeceased by his parents, one brother: Robert B. Marsden and his very special pet cats Scarlet, Rosalie and Amanda. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, in-laws and many friends. In Lieu of flowers you can send a donation to: Waldo County YMCA 157 Lincolnville Avenue Belfast, Maine 04915 A service will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta Maine at a later date.
