Obituary of Flora Sylvia Williams

Please share a memory of Flora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Flora S (West) Williams Flora W Williams, 89, Belfast, ME, died peacefully surrounded by loving family at her home on Pearl Street in Belfast Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Flora was born on June 15, 1930, in Belfast, ME, to Benjamin West and Myrtle Hills West. She married Marcellus Williams on November 14, 1964, in Belfast. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1948, and post-graduation worked at Bradbury Hospital and eventually as a bookkeeper for Milton B Hills Lumber Company. Flora was a devoted member of Belfast United Methodist Church and served on the church board in many positions, including secretary and treasurer. She also served as superintendent of the Sunday School for many years. She was very active in her church community and volunteered to work countless church yard sales or pick strawberries for shortcake socials. She also took her civic duty seriously and, for decades, served as an election worker. Flora was the smiling face that handed citizens their ballots on election day so that they could cast their votes and participate in the democratic process. When she wasn’t busy volunteering at the church or city hall, she was tending to the flower beds and gardens in her yard, in which she took great pride. Flora is survived by her husband, Marcellus Williams; daughter, Cyndi Williams Facchini and her husband Chris of Orrington; sons, Steven Williams and wife Lori of Orrington, and Nathan R. Williams of Falmouth; grandchildren, Haley and Nathan S. Williams of Orrington, and Liam and Catarina Facchini of Orrington; brother William West of Swanville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Lillian Hollywood and Barbara Nickerson, and her childhood friend Irene Thorndike. Flora’s wish was to live out her final years at home; the kind and attentive staff at Private Home Care Inc. and Maine Health Care at Home made that possible, and for that, Flora’s family is grateful. Due to current limitations on mass gatherings, funeral services will be announced at a later date. They will be held at Belfast United Methodist Church. Please check www.ripostafh.com for updates. Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast, ME 04915 will be handling arrangements. Those wishing to remember Flora in a special way can do so by donating to Belfast United Methodist Church 23 Mill Lane, Belfast, ME 04915, or through a gift of flowers.
